Beliefs

Our beliefs determine who we become.

At Anchor we are devoted to these nine beliefs because they are:

  • Critical (important for life and faith)

  • Common (agreed throughout history and the world)

  • Clear (without Biblical ambiguity)

Beliefs About God

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

(Genesis 1:1; see also Genesis 1:26, 27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

Jesus is the Son of God.

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.

(Colossians 2:9-10; see also Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15)

The Holy Spirit lives in everyone when they trust in Jesus for salvation.

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.

(Ephesians 1:13; see also Acts 1:8; John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Galatians 5:25; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2)

Beliefs About People

God created people in his image and everyone matters to God.

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

(Genesis 1:27; see also Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2; Psalm 139:13-16; Colossians 2:13-15)

All people have sinned and need God’s forgiveness.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

(Ephesians 3:23; see also Psalm 32:1; Genesis 3; Genesis 6:7; 1 John 1:9)

Everyone who trusts in Jesus alone has eternal life.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

(Ephesians 2:8-9; see also Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; Romans 5:1, 5:8, 10:9-10)

Beliefs About The Church, The Bible,

and The End

The Bible is God's Word to us.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

(2 Timothy 3:16; see also 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5; Isaiah 55:11)

Jesus is head of the Church.

And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

(Ephesians 1:22-23; see also Psalm 118:22; Ephesians 4:12, 5:23; 1 Corinthians 11:3; Colossians 2:10)

People will exist eternally with or without God.

Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.

(1 John 5:12; see also John 3:16, 14:17; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; Philippians 2:5-11; Matthew 25:31-34, Matthew 25:41)
